Want to create your own classroom Blog?
First, go to the K12 Online Conference Web site and watch the video presentation by Mark Wagner, entitled “Blog If You Love Learning: An Introduction to Weblogs in Education (Basic)”. Mark will walk you through the entire process of setting up your own blog!
Next, decide on your purpose for your blog. It could be a classroom blog (set up in time for the new school year) in order to showcase student work or communicate with parents, or a blog where you reflect on teaching and learning (like this one). You decide.
To watch the video go to the following site: http://k12onlineconference.org/?p=37
You can actually set up your own blog on edublogs.org as you watch the video. Before you begin watching the video you may want to go ahead and open up your browser to the edublogs.org Web site. A a quick link is provided for you on the left of this screen – just open the “Free Education Blogs” link up and you are there. That way you will be ready as Mark walks you through the process.
Pause and replay the training video as many times as you need. I watched the entire video (stopping and rewinding several times) as I set up my classroom blog. It took me a total of about 2 hours to complete it, so schedule some quiet time while you watch, listen and explore. It really is easy! If you can e-mail, you can blog.
I also recommend the following book: Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms by Will Richardson [ISBN 1-4129-2767-6]. Mark will give you other suggested resources at the end of his video presentation for those of us that are still tied to “a book in hand” and are learning to hack through the jungle of 21st century technology.
If you decide to set up a blog for your class, please let the rest of us know so we can share your success.
